What’s new @SQLstream | October 2016

Talk about love.

Match-made-in-heaven, head-in-the-clouds, on-cloud-9—call it what you may, but with streaming analytics moving closer and closer to the cloud, the love is apparent. And it’s no wonder: enterprise data warehouses, Hadoop clusters, and relational databases need to store the data before it’s analyzed, facing growing hardware and latency-related costs with each incremental change in volume. But while storage costs are dropping about 15% yearly, data volumes are shooting up over 40%, and the need for real-time results is becoming vital for business success. Therein lies the problem.

As a result, in the last 90 days Amazon Web Services launched their Kinesis Analytics (powered by SQLstream’s streaming analytics platform, Guavus SQLstream); service providers’ shares have gone up across the board; Cloud Expo is getting a lot of international traction in social media; even Fox mentioned cloud-as-the-new-bubble. We’re doing our share changing store-then-query into query-then-(maybe)-store, providing new APIs, pioneering new security standards, and simplifying hybrid landscapes.

Webinar series continues in October with Streaming Ingestion

The Real-time for the bottom line webinar series looks at how true real-time technologies can influence success by empowering businesses to make the right decision, at the right time, all the time.

SQLstream and our guests explored streaming analytics (with Forrester, recording available), and will be talking about streaming ingestion (October 25th, 10AM PST, with ECaTS) and live action (coming up in November).

Forrester salutes top players in Streaming Analytics

Everybody is talking about real-time contextual app experiences, but few are doing something about it because they can’t yet exploit real-time streaming data that flows from IoT devices and mobile, web, and enterprise apps. For this, they need Streaming Analytics.

The latest Wave report followed Forrester’s 26-criteria evaluation of 15 vendors, placing SQLstream in the leaders’ circle alongside companies like Cisco, Oracle, and IBM.

SQLstream speaks at Cloud Expo

Keeping your head in the clouds is a good idea

Keeping the smarts on the ground can quickly get expensive and too slow: enterprise data warehouses, Hadoop clusters, and relational databases need to store the data before it’s analyzed, facing growing hardware and latency-related costs with each incremental change in volume.

On Wednesday, November 2nd, in Santa Clara, Damian Black will investigate how moving the smarts to the cloud through hybrid, distributed streaming analytics can affect the overall performance of IoT implementations, while answering the following:

  • – What’s the latest definition of streaming analytics, and what are its applications in a cloud setting?
  • – How can hybrid architectures balance safety of mission-critical data and real-time value?
  • – What are the main areas most likely to experience rapid growth?
  • – What are some underexplored concerns regarding cloud implementations?
