Accessing Foreign Data

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

A Foreign Data Wrapper provides access from within s-Server to an external system via an adapter. The Data Wrapper lets s-Server know that a data source or destination--such as a database or flat file--exists. s-Server also requires you to define server objects, which store credentials, version information, and so on for a foreign stream or database.

You can read and write from the following sources:

RDBMS systems

The File System

Network Sockets

AMQP

Kafka

IBM MQ

Amazon Kinesis

Web Feeds

s-Server parses data from these sources into rows of columns in streams or tables. You can read data from these streams or tables by running a SELECT statement against them.

s-Server writes data to these sources in rows and columns (RDBMS systems) or in CSV, XML, or JSON (other systems).
